Zusammenfassung: Zum Fest der Christgeburt und seiner Ikonographie
Dieser frühe Text H. G. Petzolds befasst sich mit einem wichtigen ikonologischen Thema ostkirchlich-orthodoxer Ikonographie. Es handelt sich um eine als Seminararbeit verfasste Studie im Rahmen der Studien der byzantinisches Kunstgeschichte bei André Grabar (1896-1990) und der orthodoxen Theologie des Bildes und Ikonenmalerei bei Leonid Ouspensky (1902-1987) in Paris [1963- 1966], die in der renommierten Fachzeitschrift „Kyrios“ publiziert wurde. Sie stellt die theologische Tradition und symboltheoretische Sicht der Darstellung der Christgeburt in der byzantinischen Kunstgeschichte als „Hermeneutik des Bildes“ dar.

Summary: On the Celebration of Christ’s Birth and its Iconography
This early text of H. G. Petzold is dealing with an important iconolocical topic of eastern orthodox icononograpy. It was a seminar paper in his studies of byzantine art with Prof. André Grabar (1896-1990) and orthodoxe theology of the icon and icon painting with Prof. Leonid Ouspensky (1902-1987) in Paris [1963-1966], which was published in the prestigious journal “Kyrios”. The study is dealing with the theological tradition and symboltheoretical view in byzantine history of arts of the iconographic representation of Christ’s birth as a “hermeneutic of the image”.
