Summary: Body-Soul-Mind-World-Relationalities in Integrative Therapy – The “Informed Body”, the “Body Mind Problem”, and Practice
This article presents in condensed form a position of the “body mind problem” from the viewpoint of Integrative Therapy. It advocates a „differential, emergent materialistic monism“ with the differentiation: material, material-transmaterial organismic (biological life), emergent material-transmaterial qualities (e.g. mental, conscious phenomena, however based in matter, i. e. monistic). These qualities converge in the idea of the “Informed Body” which is the “subject embodied”, embedded in the life word (Lebenswelt) forming a synergy. Transmaterial phenomena as phantom pain or mental activities coupled with metabolic processes as documented by fMRI are supporting the hypothesis of emergence. They open up ways of interventions as the combination of excercises from sport therapy (bottom up) and mental training (top down). Using material from a BPD treatment this concept is expounded for clinical practice.
