Summary: GREEN MEDITATION and OIKEIOSIS: Paths to ecological self-understanding and attachment to nature, to “ecophilic life practice” and active “ecological culture” – thoughts and materials – working version
The text gives a compact presentation of the “Green Meditation” © developed by Petzold, Orth and Sieper as a form of modern nature meditation. It offers material on historical references, theoretical positions and practice. Green Meditation was developed to combine traditional ways of meditation with ecological topics, as they are needed by people in the „ecological threat“ and in the alienated living conditions in the Anthropocene, and how it is necessary for an ecophilic life in the and with the world. The concept of the younger stoa „Oikeiosis“, that is, self-understanding, understanding the world, understanding fellow creatures, forms an important basis of this approach. Modern meditation research, psychotherapeutic knowledge and ecological commitment are included and thus a path of healing, self-development, creativity and closeness to nature – developed in more than 50 years – is shown, which has a high life-enriching potential. The text is – because “everything flows” (Heraklit) “work in progress” and will be further supplemented and deepened.
